Members urged to check annual subscriptions and also join the Society

A reminder to members to update their annual subscriptions will be included in the latest copy of The Round Tower.

A total of 46 members, including 16 parochial church councils, have not increased the subscriptions to the current £20pa minimum. Some are still paying £5pa, which hardly covers the postage of the quarterly magazine.

Membership secretary Nick Wiggin said that several members, who should have renewed in June, have not responded to a second reminder and will no longer receive copies of The Round Tower.

On a positive note, Mr Wiggin said that many members have added generous donations to subscription payments. A Warwickshire member Mr Helliwell added £100 and another £70 has been received from supporter, Jeremy Short. In total, members added £1,345 in donations in the past quarter.

Membership stands at 511. As a little incentive, new members will receive a free copy of Stephen Hart’s 32-page full colour guide, East Anglian Round Towers Churches. If you like to join, please email wigjter@outlook.com or nickwiggin@hotmail.com with your details, including address for the free guide and he’ll send the Society’s bank details.

Alternatively, pay online, minimum £20pa (£30pa joint) to the Society’s bank – Round Tower Churches Society. Sort code 53 81 16. Number 04331915. Add a payment reference (nameSUB) and send an email to the membership secretary with your name/address.

Incidentally, if you’d like to receive the e-edition of The Round Tower, let him know. The December 2023 edition will be published by the middle of the month – e-editions will then be emailed.

And, of course if you’d like a suitable stocking filler for a member – Stephen Hart’s guide might be ideal and costs £4 (including postage) from nickwiggin@hotmail.com Postal applications – with cheque to the Round Tower Churches society – to Nick Wiggin, Fir Tree Cottage, Witnesham, Ipswich, Suffolk IP6 9EX.

Alternatively, copies may be obtained, price £5, from the City Bookshop, Davey Place, Norwich.
