A further package of grants worth £6,500 to three churches was agreed by the Society’s committee in May.
As funding requests arrived before the postponed annual meeting on May 2, 2020, the committee accepted the recommendations of the grants’ officer Nick Wiggin.
Accordingly, it was decided to give St Edmund’s Church, Acle, £3,000 towards the costs of thatching. This is the same grant made by the Norfolk Churches Trust.
Recognising the difficulties faced by the churches and parishes in raising funds as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was felt that giving generous grants would help to get pressing repairs and work carried out. It was agreed that half these proceeds would be funded by the generous legacy left to the Society by Stan Barnes.
St Andrew, Great Ryburgh, near Fakenham, has been awarded £1,000 towards window restoration.

In March, £6,000 was awarded to St Mary, Haddiscoe (£1,000 for re-fixing lead), which is pictured above; St Peter, Theberton (£1,000 towards thatching repairs) and £4,000 for St Peter, Merton.
