St Peter’s latest quiz includes incorrect image of neighbouring church

A deliberate mistake? Apologies for causing some confusion in the latest fun quiz in the June edition of The Round Tower.

In the list of round tower churches dedicated to St Peter, one image from a neighbouring south Norfolk parish “crept” onto page five.

Several observant members including our honorary life vice-president, Richard Barham, spotted that it was not Swainsthorpe with its distinctive parapet.

The creator of a new website with a European focus on round tower churches, Bernd Jatzwauk (see page 30, RT June 2021), who was on holiday in northern Germany, dropped an email on the same subject too. He observed that St Peter, Yaxham, could have been included too in the Norfolk list of 11 churches sharing the same dedication.

The round tower of St Mary the Virgin, Tasburgh, featured as the seventh image in the St Peter puzzler. Thanks to Mr Barham for pointing out the error.

This photograph of St Peter, Swainsthorpe was taken by Tony Walsh in 2019.
